The Who - European Tour
Live Web Casts

A World First

Pete Townshend, Roger Daltry and other members of The Who entourage both past and present have wowed audiences over many decades and countries as one of the greatest rock n’ roll bands of all time – and amazingly their 2006-2007 tour is their first official WORLD TOUR.

To mark the occasion and to show their commitment to cutting-edge technology, live web casts were streamed by Streaming Tank from each concert on their European Tour. Enabling fans from all over the world to follow the band and view the performances live and online at www.thewholive.tv/demo

This was a world FIRST as never before had a band broadcast LIVE footage from each concert and every tour location. The band were pushing the boundaries of online music right to the edge, paving the way for a new generation of gigs online.

Each broadcast began with a show called 'In the Attic', an Internet TV music show broadcast live from Oceanic, the recording studio owned by Who guitarist Pete Townshend.

A combination of live and archived footage of The Who followed, including a minimum of three songs streamed live and direct from the concert location for FREE.

A Technological First

This has been achieved by combining talent, technology and a group of innovative people and cutting-edge companies.

We worked together with the direction of Pete Townshend and his team at his London based record label Eelpie.

James Wilkinson, Group Account Director for Streaming Tank, said: “What is so exciting about The Who and their live video streaming is that they’re using a modern day medium to give their fans better access to them. It’s a great way for fans across the world to see their favourite bands play the top venues.”

“It allows fans to get more involved and follow the whole tour so that if they can’t get a ticket for a particular concert then at least they can watch it from the comfort of their own home.”

To ensure the technology works seamlessly, Streaming Tank has brought together a technical team whose previous expertise involved working on the Lord of the Rings production.

Combined with Rachael Fuller and Pete Townshend the team have collaborated together to create something truly groundbreaking and pioneering.
